Behind The Song pt 2

 Hello folks!

Another Monday is here, crazy how fast they come around. Last week I shared the motivation/meaning to the song “The Sun Will Rise,” and I intend to do the same this week for “The Garden”.

Remember, if you have no idea what I’m talking about, I released a live recording ep about 3 weeks ago. It’s called “The Garden” and you can get it here for FREE!

So, the song “the Garden” was actually inspired by a sermon believe it or not. Our church was doing a “heaven and hell” type series which sounds scarier than it actually was.

It was during the sermon on heaven that I was thinking about the world as God intended it to be, and the world as we experience it, and how different those two worlds are. My first tangible thought was the garden of eden, which is where the story of man begins in the bible. The bible describes it as a perfect place that was perfectly balanced and harmonious, a far cry to our environment today.

So, the lyrics, “the garden isn’t tame anymore,” began, and from there the song just sort of took over and I merely put pen to paper.

Here are the lyrics to the song and again you can listen/download it here:

the garden isn’t tame anymore
the weeds are thick and block the forests floor
and as our hearts grow wild and unadorned
we can’t live in the garden anymore

the angels have now taken back their song
a melody the earth has known so long
and as our voices tire from the chore
we can’t hear angel voices anymore

our stories are no longer short and sweet
but riddled tales that end in swift defeat
and as we scribble down our tales and lore’s
we can’t recall our stories anymore

our days are short but still we look for life
a final war to finally end our fight
and as we cry for mercy from our Lord
we can’t bear heaven’s burdens anymore

Behind The Song pt 1

As most of you know 2 weeks ago I released a “live” recording EP called “The Garden”. It’s been so awesome to see people enjoying it and sharing it with others. I can’t thank you enough for that!

I thought it’d be cool to take you behind the songs per se and share why I wrote each song on that ep. I know I love hearing all the “behind the scenes” stories myself so here’s to hoping you will too!

I guess I’ll start with the first song (makes sense right?).

The Sun Will Rise

I started writing The Sun Will Rise as a love song, but then the more words I wrote the more it seemed like I was writing it for God and I. I almost feel that it’s a little bit of both if that makes sense.

At that particular time, Joe and I were going through a few hardships and I just wanted to write something encouraging, something that was larger than us, to remind us that at the end of the day love would still be there, even if everything else went down the drain. The song started with the guitar part and the words followed soon after, and I think I wrote it in one sitting. I originally had a bridge written too, but after closer scrutiny it seemed a little too cheap and cheesy, so I scratched it and it is what it is now.

If you want to, you can listen or download it here and the lyrics are below if you’re like me and you like to read lyrics :) Thanks folks! Until next time.

Make it easy, make it hard
but the sun will rise tomorrow
and I’ll be there

terrors hover
beauty marred
but the sun will rise tomorrow
and I’ll be there

So, I will not be moved
though the mountains quake and rivers overwhelm
Love will weather through
and be what’s left when our bodies meet the ground

Love come softly
Man destroys
but the sun will rise tomorrow and I’ll be there

 God will hear us
through the noise
and the sun will rise tomorrow and I’ll be there
